Black History Month

Today starts Black History Month 2011. There are countless great African American leaders who came before us and paved the way. They have made it so that we have no option but to succeed. Find out how you can get involved in different activities or projects on your campuses and in your community. It is vital that we learn our history so that it will not repeat itself. Be inspired! Learn your history! Celebrate Black History Month 2011!

Hands down my favorite Panic! At The Disco song. I really need them to drop a new album asap. This video is so genius. What a wonderful caricature of intimacy.

MASTERMIND

Last Friday night I had the pleasure of hearing an inspiring rapper by the name of Mastermind. He is a sophomore Music Industry Studies Major at Loyola University. Although I was hundreds of feet from the stage I couldn't help but nod my head and sing along to to the chorus of "One day, I am gonna be famous, I told them..". He is one of the few rappers I have seen that doesn't need a hype man to work the stage and get the crowd going. Not only is this guy an aspiring rapper but he is a business man as well. Mastermind has been selling his cd F.A.I.L. (Forever Always In Last) as well as t-shirts, his own original beats, and even socks (ha)! He made $2000 in a month and was able to pay off his tuition balance. To hear his music and find out what he's really about visit http://mastermindmme.bandcamp.com/ or http://mastermindmme.tumblr.com/

OMG

I just thought this video was so funny!
It so funny because people really feel like this! I'm surprised nobody has made a song about this yet.
Just a little comedy for the day

Thanks to @_simonesays for the hip!

MOMA PS1

Went to the MOMA PS1 in Queens, New York today, probably just discovered one of my favorite artists."A 35-year-old artist and filmmaker, Nakadate, who was born in Austin, Texas, to Japanese and American parents, probes the borderline between the exhibitionism, exploitation, and vulnerability of young women."Laurel Nakadate's exhibition displays work that forces the viewer into an uncomfortable atmosphere, but it is so unique that you have to keep watching! I even got the chance to see her, and compared to her work she looks completely normal.

Check out this column Vogue did about her on their website!!

Another strange thing about her is that most of her videos and films include complete strangers; men and women.

Game ::: Purp and Patron Leaks

You want people to know who you are?

The owner of OnSmash reveals what he thinks up and coming artists should be doing right now to gain an audience...

Fashion x Erotic Photography

I saw this video on www.creativecontrol.tv
It is Ned and Aya Rosen Photography and featuring a model and interviewer Adrianna.
I really love this video because it has such a great message that I think we overlook a lot of the time.
It talks about labels we live under and trying to get us to think past those labels and think deeper and come to the realization that there is more than what meets the eye.

This photo shoot I think challenges the viewer to try and look past the clothing and the body and look at the person within and the passion beneath it.

An Evening with Nikki Giovanni : World Renowned Poet and Activist

Tuesday night I had the opportunity to go hear Ms.Nikki Giovanni herself speak. Her presence is so powerful. She is 67 years old and still has the ability to hold the attention of eager college students. What I enjoyed the most about Ms.Giovanni was her honesty in all of her uncensored remarks. Although she focused her lecture on the Civil Rights Movement she shared her opinions on Gay Marriage, President Obama, and even Interracial Dating. Sky Diving is one of my favorite Nikki Giovanni poems... I feel like we can all relate to it in one way or another.

Sky Diving

I hang on the edge
of this universe
singing off-key
talking too loud
embracing myself
to cushion the fall

I shall tumble
into deep space
never in this form
or with this feeling
to return to earth

It is not tragic

I will spiral
through that Black hole
losing skin limbs
internal organs
searing
my naked soul

Landing
in the next galaxy
with only my essence
embracing myself
as

I dream of you

The Spice Girls

Ahh! I miss the Spice Girls. Nothing can beat 90's music, it will always be classic to our generation. Their sense of fashion is so crazy!! I used to always wish that I had Baby Spice's white platform shoes =].
They were about girl power just like us!!

Ha Ha aww they are so fun! I'll never
get tired of Spice World (their movie).

What they look like now!!

Love this song of theirs!!

:)

Happy Birthday Killa!

p.s. wish him a happy birthday in person tomorrow at Club Liv

MLK Day Of Service: A Day On Not a Day Off

Today I was able to participate in the MLK "No Days Off" Service project. Students from Xavier, Dillard, Tulane, and Loyola gathered throughout the city of New Orleans to work on service projects!! My friends and I helped paint at a park that had been destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. Although I probably got more paint on my clothes then the play ground and fence, I still had a GREAT day! Community Service is always a fun way to give back to the community! Whens the last time you volunteered?

Oh Land

Check out this upcoming music artist, Oh Land! Her sound is pretty unique. It's the type of music that makes you want to be a happy person =]. I love her videos! They are so fun and creative, and most of them play with some cool lighting effects.

She also appears in this cool blog "Fashiontography" where she was photographed by Robbie Fimmano.

My Video

In my video class we were assigned to direct, create, and edit a video. Even though, my major is photography, film also interests me and I found this project to actually be fun =].

P.S. The lovely model in this video is Soulflight's own Samantha Nicole, and the song used is called "I Wanna Be Your Dog" by The Stooges

Fat Trel x Lex Luger ::: Making of "Respect with the Tech"

This past Thursday, January 6, 2011 Fat Trel traveled to Virginia Beach, VA to record with producer Lex Luger. Lex Luger is a highly accomplished producer who has worked with Waka Flocka, Fabolous, Soulja Boy, and Rick Ross. His biggest record to date is RickRoss's B.M.F, arguably the best song of 2010. Maybe a few months from now it will be him and Trel's song, Respect with the Tech.

:)

Until they drop the official song, enjoy these pictures...
